Mexican Burrowing Toads
These toads were a new discovery for me. Their wonderful wide builds and tiny pin heads captured my heart. The original (with the lighter orange markings) was sculpted from polymer clay, I then created a mold for duplicate castings in resin. These are carefully hand-painted with acrylics, with a protective satin varnish and UV gloss for the eyes. They measure roughly 9×10cm.
Mexican Burrowing Toads are built for burrowing and spend most of their time underground. When calling out to a mate they swell to impressive sizes, with their already short limbs nearly disappearing. They’re the only living representative of the family Rhinophoridae.
Due to the handmade nature of these pieces, there may be slight imperfections and the colors may vary from your screen. If choosing the original polymer clay sculpture, please take extra care when handling, especially those little front toes!
